AYER___Josephine A. " Nina" (Proia) Sharkus, 90, of Nashoba Park, Ayer died Friday, January 13, 2012 in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Ave, Worcester. She leaves a son, Walter C. Sharkus of Worcester; four daughters, Joyce A. Bujnowski of Worcester, Judith M. Williams of Webster, Cynthia Vokes of Littleton and Catherine A. Van Roon of Grafton; six grandsons; one grand-daughter; four great granddaughters; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mario and Arthur Proia. Josephine was born in St. Etienne, France a daughter of Loreto and Assunta (Ciolfi) Proia.
Mrs. Sharkus worked as a dietary aide at St. Vincent Hospital prior to retirement. She attended Grafton Street Junior High School and graduated from Commerce High School. She graduated from Fanning Trade School for advanced dressmaking with high honors . She also graduated from Southgate Arts and Crafts School of Paramount, CA. Josephine was a accomplished dressmaker . She was a past-president of the Lithuanian War Veterans, Woman's Auxiliary. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Nashoba Park for their thoughtfulness and kindness extended to her while she was a resident.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 10:30 AM in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Tuesday, January 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. www.worcesterfuneral.com
