Wanda (Paluch) Kurkiewicz, 89, of Worcester passed away peacefully with her loving family at her bedside on Thursday September 24, 2015 and has now joined her husband Franciszek "Frank" who passed away in 2007 and was married to for 58 years. May God bless them both and may they rest in peace.
She leaves her children, Jozef Kurkiewicz and his wife Halina of Dudley; John Kurkiewicz and his wife Janice of Texas; Teresa Stone and her husband Cecil of Melbourne, FL., William Kurkiewicz of Millbury; Stanley Kurkiewicz and his wife Patricia of Worcester; Mary Kurkiewicz of Southbridge; Annette Sangkhum and her husband Art of Shrewsbury; Christine D'Alessandro and her husband James of Shrewsbury and Barbara Kurkiewicz of Worcester; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was born in Lublin, Poland a daughter of the late Jozef and Bronislawa Paluch. During World War II she was taken from Poland and placed under forced labor in work camps in Germany until the American Liberation. She immigrated with her husband and family to this country in 1951.
Mrs Kurkiewicz was a homemaker and a loving, caring and generous mother and wife who treasured her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for large family gatherings and also enjoyed gardening, painting, crocheting, and jewelry making. She enjoyed playing many games, including bingo, keno, card games and scratch tickets. These activities and more continued when she moved to Christopher Heights where she made many new friends. Mrs. Kurkiewicz worked at Talbert Trading Co., as a clothes sorter for many years. Wanda Kurkiewicz was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and the Polish National Alliance.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 A.M. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday, September 28, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Shrewsbury Nursing Home and JHC Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JHC Hospice, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA., 01609.
