Walter J. "Wally" Wyse, 72, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his devoted wife of forty-eight years, Theresa "Terry" (Kazmierczak) Wyse; two sons, Shawn Wyse and his wife Rosa of Worcester and Brian Wyse and his wife Laurie of Rochdale. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Lauren and Julia Wyse and Nathan and Kyle Kubilis; his aunt Theresa Wyse of South Boston; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter was born in South Boston a son of the late John and Madeline (O'Brien) Wyse. After graduation from Gate of Heaven High School he entered the Army National Guard. He then worked for the Penn Central Railroad for a short time as a dispatcher. He then joined the Boston Fire Department in 1969 working in the South End, Roxbury, South Boston and finally Charlestown. He proudly retired after thirty-one good years of service as Captain of Engine 50 in Charlestown.
He came from a large Irish Catholic family and was one of eight children. He leaves behind his siblings, Madeline and James McGinty of Weymouth, Geraldine and Stephen Wyse of South Boston, Frederick Wyse of Mattapoisett and Theresa and Justin McCarthy of Billerica. Walter was predeceased by his sister Maureen White of Virginia, brother Jack Wyse of Plymouth and grandson James Kubilis of Rochdale.
Walter was an avid sport enthusiast. He loved the Red Sox would watch them every day faithfully. He was a lifelong member of South Boston Yacht Club and an active member of the Local 718 Boston Fire Fighter Association. He would be regularly seen at McDonalds's every morning for his daily coffee and conversations with his friends. Walter was a "simple" man who enjoyed his time at his summer home at Hampton Beach, enjoyed taking his boat out on Lake Quinsigamond with a newspaper and just relaxing. Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting Walter would agree that he had the gift of "GAB" telling stories and jokes leaving an indelible impression. He was a devoted family man who always put his wife, children and grandchildren before himself. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Wassif and his staff including Donna Parker and Donna Simonocini, all the nurses at UMass Memorial Critical Car unit, Beacon Hospice and staff including Lisa Durett and David Rapoza.
