Stefan Chojnowski, 95, of Rutland and Worcester, passed away peacefully with his family around him on Saturday, March 19, 2016. His wife of fifty three years, Jozefa (Czartoryska) Chojnowska died in 2000. He is survived by his son, Kazimierz Chojnowski and his wife Jadwiga and their children Agnieszka, Pawel and Sylvia; a daughter, Agnieszka "Agnes" Lamoureux and her husband David and their children, Monique and Drew, David and Alicia; great grandson Luke; a brother Jozef Chojnowski in Poland; one nephew and three nieces. He is predeceased by a son Jan Chojnowski and a sister Cieslawa Wysocka. He was born in Zebry, Poland a son of Hipolit and Teofila (Lada) Chojnowski.

Mr. Chojnowski worked as a machine operator for County Heat Treatment in Millbury after he arrived from Poland retiring in 1986. He was educated in Poland. He was a veteran of the Polish Army during World War II and a survivor of the concentration camp Stutthof where he was imprisoned for two and half years. In addition, he was a political prisoner after the war. He was a recipient of the Krzyz Wieznia Politycznego award known as the Polish Political Prisoner Cross for his bravery and loyalty to his country. He was a member of the Polish Army Veterans Association. He was an active member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Stefan will be remembered as a kind man whose life focus was his raising his family and grandchildren and driving them to education and achievement.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St. with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Calling hours in the funeral home will be on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street.
