Rose (Guyer) Greenwood, 95, of Sterling, formerly of Worcester, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday January 3, 2016 in Sterling Village Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was married 43 years to Ray C. Greenwood, Sr., who died in 1988. Rose leaves a son, Ray C. Greenwood, Jr., and his wife Kathleen of Sterling; two daughters, Carolyn Fontaine of Plympton, and Melanie Binnall and her husband Brian of Worcester; four grandchildren, Richard A. Fontaine and his wife Beth of Halifax, James J. Greenwood and his wife Michelle of Franklin, Kaitlyn M. Greenwood of Sterling, and Brian J. Binnall and his wife Kelly of East Longmeadow; four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Owen Fontaine, Jack and Brady Binnall. She is also survived by a nephew Joseph Oliver. Rose was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph F. and Francis J. Guyer, a sister, Helen O. Oliver, and a son-in-law, Richard A. Fontaine. Rose was born in Worcester, a daughter of Rudolph and Carrie (Kutcypal) Guyer and lived there for most of her life.
Rose was an administrative assistant for many years at Woodbury & Company. She was a graduate of the former High School of Commerce, Worcester. Rose was an active member of St. Stephen's Parish in Worcester, belonging to its Women's Guild. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband. Rose also enjoyed cake decorating, cooking and baking. Until her death, she was an avid reader and was always well versed in Worcester news and politics. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sterling Village for providing care to Rose for the past two years.
Reverend H. Edward Chalmers will officiate Rose's funeral Mass on Saturday, January 9, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 9 to 10 a.m. at the HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Restoration Fund, 16 Hamilton Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
