Peter P. Piascik, 96, of Worcester, died peacefully Sept. 14, 2016 with family by his side. His wife, Dorothea J. (Arell) Piascik died in 1973.
He leaves a son, Stephen P. Piascik and his wife Deborah of West Warwick, RI., three daughters, Shirley J. Zifcak of Uxbridge; Sharon J. Hoeg and her husband Bruce of Lakeville and Susan J. Niddrie and her husband David of Worcester with whom he made his home, seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alexander and two sisters, Irene Wolanski and Rita Chesna. He was born in Worcester, a son of the late Alexander and Sophie (Wlodkowski) Piascik and has lived here all of his life.
Mr. Piascik was a cabinet maker many years for multiple companies, most recently Iaccarino & Sons from where he retired. He graduated from Worcester Boy's Trade High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving as a Sergeant in the 9th Defense Battalion in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Peter was an active member of St. Stephen's Church where he was also an Altar server and Eucharistic Minister. In addition, Peter was a member of many Catholic groups and societies, including the Legion of Mary, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Passionist Retreat League. Woodworking was not just his profession but was truly his passion in life, and was always willing to help friends and relatives with any project. As an expression of his faith and his passion, Peter handmade several Jubilee Year 2000 crosses for churches in the Diocese of Worcester. Finally and most importantly, his favorite thing was spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.
The funeral will be held on Saturday Sept. 17, 2016 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday Sept. 16, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Restoration Fund, 16 Hamilton St., Worcester, MA., 01604.
