Gertrude G. (Lapointe) Voyer, 93, of Plymouth, formerly of Worcester died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday May 21, 2016 at Newfield House, Plymouth, MA. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Voyer to whom she had been married for 57 years. She is survived by two sons John Voyer and his wife Joan of
Portland, ME, and Richard Voyer and his wife Janet of Plymouth, MA; four grandchildren, Carly Peters and her husband Adam of Portland, ME, Andrew Voyer and his wife Anna Derryberry of Arlington, VA, Andrea Voyer of Randolph, MA, and Michael Voyer of Plymouth, MA; and two great-grandchildren, Emmerson and Elijah Peters of Portland, ME. Mrs. Voyer was born, raised and educated in Shawinigan, P.Q. Canada, the daughter of Oliva and Louise Lapointe. Gertrude was very proud of her French Canadian heritage. After their marriage in 1950, Gert and her husband moved to Worcester, MA where she became a United States citizen in 1953. She lived in the Grafton Hill section of Worcester where she was a housewife who raised and took care of her family and home. She worked at her local polling place at election time for many years, enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, the company of her friends and neighbors, and was an avid hockey and baseball fan. She was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph's (now Holy Family) Parish, Worcester, where she was a volunteer, past co-chair for the Bishop's Fund and an active member of Les Dames de Ste Anne. She was also active in the effort to save St. Joseph's in the early 1990's. In 2012 she moved to Notre Dame du Lac assisted Living in Worcester. In 2014 she moved to Newfield House in Plymouth where she received excellent care.
The funeral will be held on Thursday May 26, 2016 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Church, 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Worcester. A calling hour will be held on Thursday May 26, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Newfield House Activity Fund, Newfield House, 19 Newfield St, Plymouth, Ma., 02360.
