Celia R. Carrasquillo, 59, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday Sept. 14, 2016 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center. She leaves her partner of 43 years, Benjamin Rivera Osorio, Sr, six children, Benjamin Rivera, Jr, Elisander Rivera, Yasmisol Rosario, Danny Rivera, Emanuel Rivera and Danny Rivera, Jr, and sixteen grandchildren. Celia was born in Canovanas, Puerto Rico, and a daughter of German Carrasquillo Lopez. She was predeceased by her mother Amelia Lopez Santos, four brothers.

Celia had lived in Worcester for 26 years. Celia worked many years in health care field for St. Mary Health Care Center, Worcester. She attended High School in Loiza, Puerto Rico and was an active member in her community. Celia worked for many years at a leather factory in Loiza, before moving to Worcester in the 1990's. She brought her family to the U.S. to offer them the opportunity for a better life. Celia followed the steps of her brother, who moved to the city at first. After facing multiple challenges, as not speaking English, she decided to enroll in ESL classes to be able to find a job. As we all know, Celia was so determined with her mission of improving her life and her family's that she accomplished it once again.

Family and friends were Celia's passion and delight. She grew up with her parents, siblings and always surrounded by neighbors in her hometown. She loved to host family gatherings at her house and others, while cooking ethnic Puerto Rican food and sharing recipes. She always cherished to transmit her rich culture to her children, so that the tradition will go on. Since she moved to Worcester, Celia visited Loiza, in various occasions to spend quality time with the rest of her family, as well as spending time with her six children, partner and grandchildren here in Worcester. They were her strength and motivation her whole life. She was a loving mother, the sweetest grandmother, a dedicated daughter, sister and friend. She always showed her unlimited capacity for loving others, her honesty and giver personality to everyone around her. In Latin, the meaning of the name Celia is heavenly, or the heavens and by that we are all convinced that, in heaven we will meet again.

Calling hours for Celia will be held on Tuesday Sept. 20, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St. The funeral will be held on Wednesday Sept. 21, 2016with a service at 11 AM in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Worcester Credit Union, 520 West Boylston Street, Worcester, MA 01606. C/O to Elisander Rivera,
