Betteann (Gabis) Swindell, 69, of Worcester passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center-Worcester. She is survived by her children, Beth Shanley of Holden, Kimberly Swindell of Worcester and Lynn Johnston and her husband Richard of Worcester; five grandchildren, Michael Shanley and his fiancée Monique DeWitt, Andrew Shanley, Caitlyn Seymour and her wife Jenn, Kyle Johnston and Griffin Johnston, of all of Worcester; brother William Gabis and his wife Judy of Worcester. She was born in Worcester a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Daniels) Gabis.

Mrs. Swindell worked as a nursing assistant for many years prior to retiring from UMass Memorial Hospital. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Betteann had a love of all animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Beaumont. The family would like to thank the staff of Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially the first floor, for the wonderful care given to our Mom. Their care and compassion, especially in the past few weeks will be with us forever.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 33 Ward St. There are no calling hours. Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St. Worcester, MA 01606.
